Packed with action and comedy, this unique entertainment show sees Maze Master Richard Ayoade using a wooden hand on a stick (well, it’s one way to avoid physical contact…) to lead teams made up of friends, family-members, and even celebrities through four lavishly-realised zones – Aztec, Industrial, Futuristic, and Medieval. Each zone contains Skill, Physical, Mental, and Mystery games and players have to take them on in an effort to win crystals.
The more they collect, the more time they can spend grabbing gold tokens (and avoiding silver ones) in the all-important Crystal Dome at the end of the show… The teams try to avoid leaving with nothing more than a souvenir crystal or a ‘middling’ prize and hoping to win something, well, slightly better. A genuine British TV institution, The Crystal Maze has an immersive look like no other show – and is legendary for causing viewers to shout at the screen in frustration at players’ efforts, too.
